SUPPORT SERVICES
"Walk for Hope" Support Group: This group of breast cancer survivors meets monthly
(third Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.) at a room gratefully provided by the Upper Chesapeake
Medical Center.
Navigator Program: This program matches each newly diagnosed cancer patient with a
trained Navigator who can answer questions, give support, and smooth out the bumps
that always occur in the first 8 - 10 weeks after diagnosis. This program is has been
universally hailed as an "Adjunct to Excellence".
Community Outreach Program: 1) Speaker's Bureau: free speeches on the subject of
breast cancer are available for clubs and businesses in the community; 2) Dining with the
Director: each October, as part of breast cancer awareness month, the Center sponsors
"Dining with the Director" where, for a nominal fee, members of the community can
share a meal with the Director and Staff of the Center, hear about new programs at the
BCSC, and have their questions answered.
The Genevieve Thomas Breast Cancer Library: Our patients and their spouses
have access to our cancer library and can check out books which are filled with
information pertinent to their individual situations.
Philanthropic Services: Some of our grateful patients choose to make contributions,
both small and large, to the Center. One hundrd percent of this money is used to
provide care for patients who cannot afford clinical services, are uninsured, and
do not qualify for government support.
